Most of the entrance tests for Medical Colleges in India are held in the months of April / May / June for the academic year commencing from July / August of the following year. Usually, the syllabus of the entrance test is based on the NCERT courses outline of class XI and XII. In most of the Entrance Tests; Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology cover major sections. However, some specific entrance tests also include English Proficiency & Comprehension, Logical & Quantitative Reasoning, General Knowledge/ General Aptitude/ General Ability/ Mental Ability, Current Affairs, Kannada/ Hindi Language Test, Bible Test and Gandhian Ideologies, etc. The weightage of the aforementioned subjects vary from exam to exam. Single test is conducted for most of the entrance tests; while some specific tests are conducted in two-stages/ two-days.

Candidates seeking admission in AFMC for MBBS Course shall register online through NEET and in addition to registering with NEET they shall also have to register at www.afmc.nic.in. Candidates seeking admission under State Quota seats, Central Institutions, AFMC and other participating institutions etc. are also advised to be in touch with the concerned authority viz Medical Education Directorate of the State/ UT/ Institutions/ University/ AFMC.

The conduct of the entrance test, declaration of result and providing merit list to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), New Delhi and participating State Governments/ Universities/ Institutions is the responsibility of the CBSE. The counseling for successful candidates under 15% All India Quota seats is conducted by the DGHS and the counseling for admission in seats under the control of other participating States/ Universities/ Institutions shall be conducted by their respective Authorities.

Test Pattern of National Level Entrance Exams

NEET

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) consists of total 180 objective type questions from Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology. Each subject has 45 questions with 4 marks each, carrying a total 720 marks. There is also one fourth (1/4) negative marking for each wrong answer. Duration of test is 3 hrs.

AIIMS

In the entrance test of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), 60 questions from each subject – Physics, Chemistry and Biology are asked along with 10 questions from General Knowledge, 10 questions from Aptitude & Logical Thinking. Out of 200 questions, 120 questions are based on MCQs, 60 questions based on Assertion-Reason type and 20 questions from GK and Aptitude & Logical Thinking. There are also one third (-1/3) negative marking for wrong answer. Duration of entrance exam is 3 ½ hrs. Since 2015 onward, the AIIMS entrance test is conducting online.

JIPMER

Jawaharlal Institute of Post graduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) for MBBS entrance exam will consists of 200 single response type Multiple Choice Questions in the subjects of Physics-60 Questions, Chemistry-60 Questions, Biology-60 Questions, Logic & Quantitative Reasoning-10 Questions and English & Comprehension-10 Questions. Each correct response shall be awarded 1 mark. ZERO mark will be given for the question NOT answered. There is NO negative marking for wrong answers. Duration of test is 2 ½ hrs. Single shift – Online mode of test.
